What to expect following pregnancy

While you are pregnant you will experience many changes to your skin such as the pregnancy glow, dark spots, break outs, varicose veins, stretchmarks and much more that will carry over into the post partum stage. While you are pregnant your body produces about fifty percent more blood that will be circulating through your body and this is responsible for the “glow” that everyone associates with being pregnant. This extra blood being produced is accompanied by extra hormone production which can increase the oil production on your skin leaving it shiny. Just wash your face and keep it dry and enjoy your pregnancy glow because it is not harmful or unattractive in any way. The fact that your body is producing more hormones also means that you might have increased pigment production which can result in dark spots on your skin.

This can be prevented by wearing at least SPF 15 whenever you are going to be int he sun and protecting you skin from sun damage any way you can think of. If you experience increased oil because of hormone production you might suffer from break outs and acne. There are a lot of acne treatments that are extremely harmful to a fetus if you are pregnant so before you use any kind of acne medication you need to consult with your doctor. It is best just to wash your face with a natural cleaner and keep it dry and possibly make up free if you can bare it.

Another problem some pregnant women suffer from is varicose veins which occur because of the extra blood flow in your body. It is best to avoid putting too much pressure or weight on your legs if you want to avoid these reddish blueish veins forming. These veins can also be very painful and will be made worse by long periods of standing. To avoid suffering from varicose veins you should make sure you are getting enough vitamin C, avoid long periods of standing or walking, make sure you do not gain an excessive amount of weight and wear compression stockings if you start to suffer from them. The best way to keep your skin healthy and beautiful is to take it easy while you are pregnant, eat healthy and drink a lot of water. However this cannot prevent some of the problems that can associated with breast feeding such as loss of breast volume and inverted nipples which can sometimes occur.
