Some Things You Should Know About Tummy Tucks or Abdominoplasty Surgery

Getting ready for a tummy tuck is a serious step in preparing for the surgery. Once you get an abdominoplasty, you will need a couple of weeks to recover from the incisions and from your stomach muscles being manually manipulated. The body needs time to recover from the shock and to properly heal. You may be thrilled with your new look but to rush about and cause possible irritation to the area of incision would not be wise. Preparing yourself for the recovery time is necessary to enjoy the benefits that your new body shape gotten from a tummy tuck cosmetic surgery will afford you.
The surgery itself uses either a local or a general anesthesia, depending on the surgeon’s preference and yours. What type of anesthesia you get during a surgery should be something that you discuss with your surgeon during the pre surgical consultation that you have with him. Keep in mind that getting the traditional tummy tuck will mean that you will be under anesthesia for up to five hours depending on the amount of work the surgeon has to do once he has opened you up. Getting general anesthesia is considered safer for patients by plastic surgeons since general anesthesia will keep you completely relaxed and there won’t be any possible unexpected movement by your body while the surgeon is tightening your abdomenal muscles for a full tummy tuck.
What kind of anesthesia you get is very important and should be thoroughly discussed with your surgeon before surgery. Having the means and the time to allow your body to heal following a full tummy tuck is also very important and should be planned prior to getting the cosmetic surgery.
