Dental Implants for those missing teeth issues
Whether through age, decay or physical injury, people lose teeth every day. These teeth need to be replaced through tooth extraction not just for aesthetic reasons but for practical and health reasons too. A fixed bridge or denture is the most used way to deal with this, however dental implants are becoming more and more widespread amongst Essex dentists as people realise their benefits.
Implants are a titanium replacement which is a dental job that takes the place of the root which should normally be there from your natural tooth. It is placed into a hole drilled into the bone of your jaw and allowed to meld with the bone to allow the best healing and integration with your mouth’s natural structure so that it can be used as the base for a crown or bridge with the maximum possible positive outcome for the health of your teeth.
Your dentist will examine your mouth and treat any decay or disease first, then a number of x-rays and possibly a CT scan will be used to survey the site to make sure it is the best location. The hole will then be drilled under anaesthesia which requires the gum to be cut and separated, the implant is put in and the gum is replaced. As soon as it is properly healed over the coming weeks or months, the final repair can be completed, replacing the temporary bridge put in place for the healing process. Take care of the implant with toothpaste and what not as you would a normal tooth.
